Planning Principles

Open space land use has long been central to The Irvine Company's comprehensive planning philosophy. By thoughtfully shaping natural landscapes into open-air venues for recreation, education and entertainment, Irvine residents have many choices to enjoy the natural surroundings of their neighborhoods while walking, jogging, playing or bicycling.

In Planning Area 9A, the new village of Woodbury, a 30-acre central community green, known as "The Commons," recently opened. The Commons, at the heart of Woodbury, is a place where neighbors can connect and families can join together to cheer their children. The Commons includes The Club, a nine-acre resort-style social and recreational facility for the exclusive use of Woodbury residents and their guests.

Also included is the 10-acre Woodbury Community Park, operated by the city of Irvine. The park area includes baseball diamonds, two lighted full-court basketball courts, a soccer field and tot lot with open areas for picnics and play. There is on-site parking, and the park is easily accessible from throughout Woodbury via an array of walking and jogging trails that wind through the scenic neighborhoods and parks.

The Woodbury Elementary School, slated to open in the fall of 2007, is also within The Commons boundary.
