Stretching across approximately 8,500 acres, North Irvine is planned to
achieve a balanced and sustainable mix of permanent open space, a range
of housing opportunities and business centers. It includes five General Plan
areas - 3, 6, 9 and portions of 5 and 8. The preliminary land-use plan
envisions:
- More than 5,700 acres - nearly 67% of the entire planning area - to be set aside as permanent open space.
- Hundreds of acres will be used for community and neighborhood parks and trails.
- Fewer than 3,000 acres designated for residential and commercial development.
- Planning Area 9A has been named - Woodbury - and the village is under construction.
- New entry-level attached homes and move-up single-family detached residences.
- 100 acres committed to the Jeffrey Open Space Trail, an open space corridor
along Jeffrey Road linking the northern and southern regions of Irvine's open space.
- Nearly 600,000 square feet of multi-use development, and 175,000 square feet of commercial uses.
- An approximately 50-acre Gateway Park at the north end of the Jeffrey Trail.
