On June 12, 2002, The Irvine City Council approved
plans to annex the Northern Sphere of Influence,
allowing for 12,350 residential units. In keeping with the
goal of the agreement, these units can be accommodated
without an increase to the overall size of the City as
originally contemplated under the City's General Plan.
The units have been reallocated from unused existing
residential dwelling unit capacity from other villages,
which enables the City to help meet its housing
objectives and locate homes near the Irvine Spectrum
employment center. Planning Area 3 will remain open
space in perpetuity. Units in each planning area are
as follows: |

New villages in North Irvine mirror densities found in the
nearby communities of Northwood and Northpark. The villages
will incorporate a wide range of housing options including
single-family detached homes, attached homes, and apartment
homes. There also are plans to incorporate affordable
housing. The number of units will meet the goals for affordable
housing as outlined by the City of Irvine.
